"PARS ONAGE" WORK DAY
June 7, 2009

What a day this was!

Knowing there was much upkeep and one humongous project that needed to be done around Pastor Brian's house, a member suggested that the church would want to pitch in and help to get all the work done. So...

...it started with a list a mile long and not knowing what to expect!

When workers began arriving at just before 9 a.m. on an overcast and muggy Sunday, supplies had already been gathered and "work orders" were on the "job board" out front.

Everyone who came got right to work, AND they worked hard and with enthusiasm!

There were big jobs and small. The front and side garden beds needed pruning, planting, weeding and
mulching. You can see how good they
began
looking right away and right off the bat!

One of the biggest projects of the day was ripping out the old deck in the backyard and replacing all of the top boards. The deck covers half of the backyard, so it was no little job. After some conferring, several of the workers grabbed hammers and crow bars and set to work, ripping tugging, hammering, and prying. It took about 3 hours to get the entire deck ripped up, but they all stuck with it, and HAD FUN!!!

RIPPING

TUGGING

PRYING

???HAMMERING???

LOOK AT ALL THAT WOOD!!!

High above it all were Drew and Chris, who sacrificed body and shoes, to recaulk the sunroom roof and actually cleaned, dried and sealed the flat deck over the family room of the house! These projects took these two the whole day, but they stuck with them until the jobs were done!

Meanwhile, inside the house, the ladies were cooking up a storm for lunch. Nancy heard on Food Network that if you put a thumbprint in the middle of a burger before you cook it, it will not puff up in the middle, and it will remain flat. So, the ladies tried it, and sure enough, it worked creating perfectly flat, juicy hamburgers that cooked all the way through without overcooking the outside!

After lunch, it was back to work, repainting the fence, killing weeds, and remulching the garden beds. Never was it truer than today that "many hands make light work." It took over 8 workers to get that fence repainted, but, again, they stuck with it until the job was done well.

Spied on a worker's shirt:

Once the work was done, and the sun had worked its heating magic, there were several overthrows into the pool, clothes, shoes, phones (oops, sorry, Justin), and all!

Though Mike was scheming to get Deb in the pool, in the end they both had to go, or Deb was going to "go monkey" on Mike (wrapping arms and legs) and then it would be over!

BELLY FLOP CONTEST:

MIKE WAS THE WINNER, HANDS (OR BELLY) DOWN. HE SHOWED NO FEAR AND DID NOT FLINCH THE FACE OF EXTEME STING. LOOK AT THAT HORIZONTAL ANGLE: PERFECTLY PARALLEL TO THE POOL!!!

Sliding or Stuck?

Notice all the cross outs on this list! Not only were ALL the projects finished, but they were also DONE WELL!
Only two minor injuries the whole day, and no other mishaps.
The Lord certainly
blessed this day!

Teiah's gift for the first annual
"Parsonage Work Day" summarizes the day perfectly:
Make a clean sweep, and do it with exceptional style!

There can never be enough thanks to Tonya for suggesting the idea of this day and seeing it to completion, doing many jobs herself; Samantha M., and Priscilla for working from start to finish and trying new things; Chris and Drew for the roof overhaul; Serena, Cassie, and Celeste for adding a lot of expertise, experience, and bandaids; Jordan for overseeing the entire deck rebuild and showing up extra early to help get the wood; the deck squad: Eric, Felix, Aaron, and Mike; Deb and Michelle who were beasts and not only helped with the deck but also painted the fence; Josh and Justin who came in fresh ready to work as the morning crew was slowing down; the kitchen crew: Nancy, Teiah, and Jackie who not only cooked but left the kitchen as if 25 people had not eaten there that day!; and Jadyn for donating her mp3 player to play music for all the workers!

So, expanding on the idea and huge success of the day, a new list has begun of those who want their name in the drawing for the next
COL Work Day!
Deb, Eric, Teiah,... who else? We're coming soon!
